If you run an SME in Spain and want to deploy artificial intelligence, public funding can cover part of the cost. These programmes open and close in windows. This guide covers the main paths, what each paid, which calls are closed as of September 2026, and what to prepare for the next opening.

Kit Digital: Spain’s flagship digitalisation programme

Status first. The Acelera pyme portal states that the Kit Digital calls for beneficiaries have ended (acelerapyme.gob.es). Orden TDF/39/2026 keeps the regulatory bases in force so that leftover funds can still be used until they are exhausted (BOE-A-2026-2070), but no new call for companies is open. Treat what follows as how the programme worked, and as a template for whatever replaces it.

Kit Digital is the largest SME digitalisation programme Spain has run. Funded by NextGenerationEU and managed by Red.es, it had awarded 858,000 grants, 755,000 of them already executed, with EUR 3,067 million committed, according to the government’s February 2026 balance (Plan de Recuperación).

How much it paid

The voucher depended on company size:

SegmentSizeEmployeesDigital voucher
Segment ISmall company10-49EUR 12,000
Segment IIMicroenterprise3-9EUR 6,000
Segment IIISelf-employed / micro0-2EUR 2,000-3,000
Segment IVMedium company50-99EUR 25,000
Segment VMedium company100-249EUR 29,000

Source: Acelera pyme. The voucher did not cover VAT, which the company paid.

What it covered

Kit Digital funded digital solutions from a catalogue, delivered by an approved digitising agent (agente digitalizador). The categories closest to AI:

  • Business intelligence and analytics
  • Cybersecurity
  • CRM and process management
  • Electronic invoicing
  • Advanced digital marketing

Eligibility (last calls)

  1. An SME or self-employed person within the size of the segment called
  2. Up to date with the tax agency (Hacienda) and Social Security (TGSS)
  3. Not a company in crisis
  4. The digital self-assessment completed on the Acelera pyme platform

Application process in 8 steps

  1. Get a digital certificate from FNMT, or set up Clave Permanente
  2. Register at acelerapyme.gob.es/kit-digital
  3. Complete the self-assessment (autodiagnóstico) of digital maturity
  4. Wait for the voucher resolution
  5. Choose a digitising agent from the catalogue
  6. Sign the service agreement defining scope, deliverables and timeline
  7. Deploy the solution
  8. Justification and verification by Red.es, after which the voucher is paid to the agent

If you are a provider rather than a beneficiary, our guide on how to become an agente digitalizador covers the adhesion procedure.

IVACE grants: extra funding for Valencia-based companies

If your company is based in the Comunitat Valenciana, IVACE runs two annual programmes that fit AI projects. Both 2026 windows are closed; the figures below are from the 2026 calls:

Our IVACE guide covers the eligible cost lines and a five-item file to prepare before the next window.

Combining programmes

Different programmes can fund different parts of a project, for example a regional innovation grant for development work and a loan from ENISA for growth capital. Two rules apply everywhere: the same cost cannot be funded twice, and total public funding cannot exceed the cost of the project. Check each call’s compatibility clause before you plan on stacking.

Deploying AI with Vorlux AI

A typical Edge AI deployment with Vorlux AI includes hardware (for example a Mac mini M4), model configuration, integration with your systems and training. It is scoped and quoted per project, and we tell you up front which parts could be eligible under an open call.

Deadlines to watch

  • Kit Digital: calls for beneficiaries have ended; watch the BOE for any leftover-fund resolution or successor programme
  • IVACE INNOVA-CV and DIGITALIZA-CV: annual; the 2026 rounds are closed. Check ivace.es for the next one
  • ENISA: participative loans on a rolling basis; check conditions at enisa.es

Budgets are finite and windows are short, so prepare the file before a call opens.

Why edge AI makes grant money go further

A grant-funded cloud subscription stops delivering when the payments stop. A grant-funded edge deployment leaves you with:

  • Hardware you own: no recurring licence fee for the inference engine
  • Data on your premises: simpler GDPR compliance
  • Predictable costs: no bill that scales with every query
  • Independence: no vendor lock-in, no API deprecation risk

To compare the running costs for your own workload, use our cloud vs local break-even guide.

Next step

  • Free consultation: we look at your project and at which open programmes it could fit
  • Preparation: we help you scope the project so the file is ready when a call opens
